About me: Hi, I'm David. At 56, I was diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer, which led to the removal of my bladder and the creation of a urostomy I affectionately call "Ernie." As a veteran and a dad, I strive to stay active and healthy, and while adjusting to life with Ernie has its challenges, we've developed a solid understanding of each other. Life with a urostomy is undeniably transformative, but I've found it manageable. For me, it’s all about maintaining the right attitude and recognising that our mindset plays a crucial role in how we navigate change. I view Ernie much like I would a pair of glasses or hearing aids - acknowledging that certain parts of our bodies may not work as well as they used to, but with a bit of assistance, we can adapt and keep moving forward.
