About Me: Hi, I'm Debbie. I've had Crohn's and perianal disease since 2002, diagnosed at age 37 after over 10 years of misdiagnosis. As a retired kindergarten teacher, I experienced severe diarrhea and cramps, often using the toilet 20 times daily. After a botched surgery caused incontinence, a gastroenterologist finally identified my condition. I was malnourished and hospitalised for treatment. Despite managing my bowel for five years with medication, I had multiple surgeries for complications. In 2006, after a relapse, I opted for a proctocolectomy and ileostomy. A friend from the hospital helped me adjust to life with a stoma. I later faced intestinal blockages due to spinal surgery requiring fusion. I also developed ankylosing spondylitis and osteoarthritis.
