About Me: Hi, I'm Shenae. My ostomy journey began when I was 15 years old. I have a condition called slow transit constipation, which has also caused substance P deficiency and Anismus. Unfortunately, with these three issues combined, I was having to get nasal gastric washouts in the hospital for up to 3 weeks, nearly every two months. After many specialist appointments and even multiple trips to see a specialist in Melbourne, the decision was made for me to get an ileostomy. After the initial shock of getting the ileostomy and many nights crying, thinking everyone at school would bully me. I started to embrace having one, and I was able to go out more. I was determined to continue my studies. I had a strong passion for helping others, so I knew that's the direction I wanted to head in career-wise.
